Dong Quai
Herbal Support for Women's Health

 GNC Laboratories

Dong Quai

Product Highlights

Dong Quai (also spelled Tang kwei or Danggui) (Angelica sinensis). One of the most widely used herbs in traditional Chinese medicine, it is primarily used in herbal formulas as a "female tonic" to treat muscle cramps and pain associated with difficult menstrual periods as well as PMS symptoms.

  • Supports women's health.

  • The botanical species of Fingerprinted™ herbs are positively identified by the sophisticated Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) technology.

  • TLC verification method is as accurate and reliable for identifying true herbal species as human fingerprinting.

  • Whole ground herb is minimally processed; dried and pulverized.

Dong Quai is also used to provide energy, vitality and resistance to disease and is a wonderful blood tonic, promoting its production and circulation. It is therefore used in treating anemia, boils, headaches, venous problems, low immunity and problems of peripheral blood flow. This plant also has a reputation as a liver tonic, protecting the liver against toxins and stimualting liver metabolism.

What is Dong Quai?

Dong Quai, one of the most important of the Chinese tonic herbs, is used as a nourishing blood tonic and to regulate the menstrual cycle. Dong Quai has been used for centuries by Asian healers to balance female hormones and to prevent the troublesome symptoms of menopause and PMS. Clinical research has indicated that Dong Quai also contains antispasmodic compounds that aid in relaxing muscle tissue, explaining its effectiveness in treating menstrual cramps.

What is the advantage of Dong Quai?

The risks and long term effects of HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy) are well known, while studies on soy-based products show conflicting and unsubstantiated results. Research has show that Dong Quai is extremely effective in providing long term relief from symptoms of Menopause when taken regularly for between 8 and 12 weeks, and its effects are most noticeable at the end of the treatment period.
