Product Ingredients
The powerful antioxidants in Berry Superfruit include:
Mangosteen Fruit Hull Powder Extract (30% Xanthones) - Mangosteen,
a fruit relatively unheard of just a decade ago, has taken America by storm.
Due to its content of antioxidant xanthones, this southeast Asian powerhouse
has been shown to protect LDL (“bad”) cholesterol from oxidation and inhibit
inflammation — both good things for cardiovascular health.
Pomegranate Hull Powder Extract (40% Ellagic Acid) - The blood-red
seeds of the pomegranate are packed with antioxidants. In fact, pomegranate
has six times the antioxidant power of green tea! Scientists believe that
the ellagitannins in pomegranate convert to ellagic acid — the same cellular
protector found in raspberries. A number of studies have found that
pomegranate protects prostate cells and breast cells from abnormal changes.
Wolfberry (Goji Berry) Extract (40% Polysaccharides) - Due to its
enviable concentration of nutrients — including vitamins, minerals,
phyto-nutrients, fiber, essential fatty acids, and amino acids —
wolfberries, or goji berries, have gained the status of “superfruit.”
Wolfberries are one of nature’s richest sources of the antioxidant
zeaxanthin, which protects the retina of the eye from free radical and UV
damage. In fact, these berries have been used to preserve vision in China
for centuries.
Grape Seed Extract (95% Proanthocyanidins) and Pine Bark Extract with
Enzogenol (95% Proanthocyanidins) - Both grape seed and pine bark
extracts have the same active ingredient: oligomeric proanthocyanidins (also
called OPC). These natural plant chemicals are powerful antioxidants. In
fact, research has shown OPC extracts are 20 times stronger than vitamin E
and 50 times stronger than vitamin C!
Green Tea Extract (99% Polyphenols, 80% Catechins, 45% EGCG) -
Rich in antioxidant polyphenols, including catechins, green tea is an
antioxidant powerhouse. In fact, in a test of various antioxidants’ ability
to protect LDL cholesterol from free radical damage, green tea was 200 times
more protective than vitamin E!
Bilberry Extract (25% Anthocyanin) - Bilberry is another
antioxidant-rich botanical. There’s a folk story that World War II pilots
used to consume bilberry jam to improve their night vision when flying after
dark. Whether or not that story is true, bilberry’s rich supply of
antioxidant anthocyanins does appear to protect the lens and retina of the
eye from free radical attack. Studies have also found that anthocyanins may
strengthen the blood vessels, enhance circulation, and prevent LDL
cholesterol from oxidizing and collecting in the arteries.
Raspberry Extract (20% Ellagic Acid) - More than just a yummy
fruit, raspberries contain a polyphenol antioxidant called ellagic acid,
which works in many ways to protect our cells against unwanted changes. It
binds to DNA, protecting it from damage. It induces phase II detoxification,
which is a fancy way of saying it revs up the body’s ability to neutralize
and get rid of harmful toxins. And most impressive of all, it seeks out and
destroys damaged cells, but is completely harmless to normal ones.
AlkaBerry Blend (95% Proanthocyandins) - Time and time again,
berries snag most of the spots on the “top antioxidant foods” lists. Our
AlkaBerry Blend features extracts of blackberries, blueberries, cranberries,
and strawberries, as well as other antioxidant-rich fruits, such as
pomegranate, escobillo (a rainforest fruit also known as camu-camu), and
grape.
Vitamin C is one of the most important antioxidants. In fact, it
acts as the body’s first line of antioxidant protection. Because it is
water-soluble, C works in water environments — such as the water inside and
outside of cells — to neutralize free radicals. And since the body is 75
percent water, that’s a lot of neutralizing to do.
Antioxidant Minerals act as catalysts for other antioxidants to
work effectively. These minerals include selenium, zinc, copper, manganese
and iron.
Betaine HCL (betaine hydrochloride) is a source of hydrochloric
acid, the same thing your stomach produces to digest foods. We added betaine
HCL to Berry Superfruit to ensure optimal absorption of all the
antioxidants in the formula. (antioxidants are better absorbed in the
presence of acid.)

What do free radicals and vampires have in common?
You’ve heard of them. You know they’re bad. But do you know why? Here’s
an introduction to Free Radicals 101.
Free radicals are molecules like any other molecule, such as oxygen or
hydrogen. What makes them different — what makes them dangerous — is that
they’re unstable.
You see, molecules come with pairs of electrons. Having electrons in sets
of two makes them balanced. But free radicals are molecules that have lost
one of their electrons. And they will do anything to get that electron
back…even if it means stealing one from another molecule.
And that’s exactly why free radicals are so dangerous to human cells:
they’re like vampires. In a free radical’s quest for an electron (or blood,
to follow the vampire metaphor), it will attack another innocent molecule
(or victim). Then that molecule turns into a free radical (or vampire). Now,
instead of one free radical molecule going about damaging healthy cells,
you’ve got two. Once those two start attacking still more molecules, they
become four, then eight, then sixteen.
In fact, just one free radical can
set off a chain reaction of one thousand events. And all one thousand of
those events damage your tissues and accelerate the aging process.
In fact, the most widely accepted theory of aging argues that time
isn’t responsible for aging our bodies — free radicals are.
Unfortunately, free radicals are unavoidable in modern life. They’re
created by external factors, such as pollution and ultra-violet light. But
our own bodies generate free radicals every day, through normal processes
like exercise and breathing. You can’t get around them. So you’d better
fight them.
antioxidants to the rescue!
Just as our bodies naturally generate free radicals, they also generate
antioxidants. And antioxidants have the ability to neutralize free radicals.
How? By “donating” an electron to the free radical, which stabilizes it and
ends the destructive cycle.
But sometimes there are simply too few antioxidants to keep up with all
the free radicals being produced. And when the free radicals in your body
outnumber the antioxidants, cell damage occurs. Fortunately, you can tip the
scales in your favor by supplementing your diet with additional
antioxidants.
Buyer beware.
But before you go out and buy a generic antioxidant product at your local
drugstore, consider this: There are literally hundreds of different types
of free radicals, and hundreds of different types of antioxidants. And
they work like keys in locks: one type of antioxidant will work beautifully
against one type of free radical, but it’s useless against another type.
That means your best defense against free radicals — and the best way to
support healthy aging — is to have a wide range of antioxidants. And that’s
exactly what you’ll get with Berry Superfruit, our super
antioxidant complex.
More antioxidants than 4 pounds of fruits and veggies!
What do you get when you add the best antioxidant superfruits, herbal
extracts, vitamins, and minerals? One heck of an ORAC score.
ORAC, which stands for oxygen radical absorption capacity, is a
scientific way of measuring antioxidant strength.
For example, a 3-oz.
serving of carrots has 579 ORAC units. (The FDA, by the way, recommends that
you get 7,000 ORAC units per day.)
Well, we tested Berry Superfruit to see how it would fare against
typical fruits and vegetables and frankly…it blew them away. Just one daily
dose of Berry Superfruit has a certified ORAC rating of 8,000 units.
That’s equivalent to more than four pounds of fresh fruits and
vegetables!
(Skeptical? Here’s how the math goes: The average serving of fruits or
veggies has an ORAC rating of 400, and weighs about 3 oz. There are 5
servings in a pound. Multiply 5 servings by an ORAC of 400 and you get
2,000. So four pound of fruits and veggies has an ORAC of 8,000.)
Now, we would never suggest that you give up eating fresh, whole fruits
and vegetables. But if you have trouble eating the recommended amount of
fruits and veggies (that’s 7 per day for you ladies, and 9 per day for you
gentlemen), then Berry Superfruit is the way to go.
Protect your cells against degeneration and aging, with Berry
Superfruit.
The power of superfruits, without the sugar.
Fruits are widely considered one of the richest sources of antioxidants.
That’s one of the reasons they’re so good for you. The drawback, of course,
is that fruits are also high in sugar, and in large quantities, sugar can
have an acidifying effect on the body.
Fortunately, we found a way around that dilemma. Berry Superfruit contains concentrates of some of nature’s most powerful
antioxidant superfruits — such as goji, mangosteen, pomegranate, and
berries — without the fruit sugar.
The best of the botanical antioxidants.
Many botanicals have also been studied for their tremendous antioxidant
reserves. You’ll find all the botanical superstars — like grape seed extract
(rich in oligomeric proanthocyandins or OPCs), green tea extract (delivering
45% EGCG), bilberry extract (with 25% anthocyanins), and pine bark extract
(providing 95% OPC) — in Berry Superfruit.
And because each of our herbal extracts is standardized to its active
antioxidant phyto-nutrient, you get a guaranteed consistent dose in each
serving.
Vitamins and minerals round out the mix.
Finally, Berry Superfruit features a selection of antioxidant
vitamins and minerals, including vitamin C, zinc, manganese, copper, and
selenium.

Take it with your multivitamin every day.
And just in case you’re worried about getting too many antioxidants,
don’t be. Many antioxidant formulas on the market (which contain high levels
of vitamins and minerals) may be unsafe to combine with your daily
multivitamin. Berry Superfruit is specially formulated to
contain high levels of vitamins and minerals to be effective, but low enough
to safely take with your favorite multivitamin.
