Alkalive
Gold provides beneficial prebiotics and fiber to help replenish and restore
intestinal health, which is crucial for overall pH Balance.
A prebiotic is a nondigestible food ingredient
that selectively stimulates the growth and activity of friendly, beneficial
bacteria (probiotics) within the intestines. These unique 'colonic foods'
are not absorbed in the upper part of the gastrointestinal tract, thus they
enter the colon to provide food for the resident beneficial bacteria. This
symbiotic mixture of prebiotics and probiotics (Alkalive™ Orange) has been
shown to greatly increase gastrointestinal health.
The most common
prebiotics are inulin, fructooligosaccharides (FOS), and acacia. Inulin is
found in more than 36,000 plants and is their energy reserve. Inulin is
present in significant quantities in vegetables such as artichokes,
asparagus, leeks, onions, garlic, even wheat.
It is also present in large
amounts in chicory roots from where we extract it. Fructooligo-saccharides
(FOS), a natural constituent of Inulin, is fermented by most strains of
bifidobacteria.
When bifidobacteria grow in environments providing FOS, they
do so at the expense of unfriendly, pathogenic bacteria.
Extensive
research has shown that ingestion of moderate amounts of inulin, like that
found in Alkalive Gold, results in a significant increase (5 to 10 times)
of the beneficial bifidobacteria in the intestinal tract.
At the same time, the presence of less desirable bacteria is
significantly reduced. This proves that each gram of inulin or
Fructooligosaccharides (FOS) is of particular benefit to bifidobacteria,
stimulating their metabolism and increasing their activity, potentially
leading to a healthier colon.

Fiber Is A
Key to Good Colon Health
Most Americans
consume only half the dietary fiber that is recommended; about 15 grams a
day or less. Many health experts are advising people of all ages to consume
more dietary fiber. Much research suggests that fiber may prevent cancer,
diabetes, heart disease and obesity. Fiber "bulks up" waste and moves it
through the colon more rapidly, preventing constipation and possibly colon
cancer. Fiber may also help to keep cholesterol under control by removing
bile acids that digest fat. Because fiber helps delay stomach emptying, it
may regulate blood sugar as well. Fiber is a weight watchers dream since
fibers called cellulose and hemicelluloses take up space in the stomach,
making us feel full, therefore food intake is less.
Fiber acts like a sponge, soaking up acids and
toxins from the intestines. Foods containing plenty of fiber have more bulk
than low-fiber foods. If taken in the right form at the right time and at
sufficient quantities, fiber can sometimes slow the onset of hunger. Fiber
can absorb large amounts of water in the bowels, and this makes stools
softer and easier to pass.

Alkalive™ Gold contains a
blend of three beneficial prebiotic, soluble, and insoluble fibers. A single
serving contains 5.3 grams of beneficial fiber.
Inulin (fructooligosaccharides - FOS)
Inulin and oligofructose are
soluble dietary fibres. Unlike some synthesized poly and oligosaccharides,
our inulin is extracted from chicory roots using hot water. FOS is then
obtained through partial enzymatic hydrolysis. When ingested, inulin and
oligofructose increase neither the glycemy nor the insulin levels in the
blood, making them suitable for diabetics. Studies have also shown that
inulin fiber significantly increases the absorption of calcium in the body
and even improves bone mineral density. This could have important
consequences for prevention of osteoporosis.
Acacia
Fiber
Acacia fiber
is a soluble fiber that comes from the gum of the acacia tree. As a
prebiotic, it increases good intestinal flora, and slows down colonic
fermentation, which decreases gas and bloating. Soluble dietary fiber has
many beneficial effects on health, including slowing transit time of food
passing through the small intestine. For example, by slowing digestion of
glucose, blood sugar levels are held more constant. The fiber is not
digested in the small intestine, but ferments in the large intestine, where
it produces short chain fatty acids, which are thought to protect against
several diseases, such as diarrhea, intestinal inflammation and colon
cancer.
Soy Fiber
Soy is an
excellent source of fiber (15% by weight), and contains both soluble and
insoluble fiber. Extensive clinical studies with Soy Fiber have proven that
it provides all the benefits associated with both soluble and insoluble
fiber. Soluble fiber acts as nutrition for the digestive tract while
insoluble fiber helps to soften and expand stool volume.
Some studies have shown that
soy fiber is beneficial in lowering LDL cholesterol and triglycerides. |
